Dear Parents,

WELCOME TO THE 1ST GRADE WEBSITE!  I briefly want to explain some of our classroom procedures, if at any time you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Reading Journals

Your child will be required to read for 15 to 20 minutes 4 nights a week and record in their reading log. Reading logs will be turned in monthly and be counted as one reading grade.

Spelling

Spelling tests will be given each Friday. Please take time to do the assigned homework each night.  Please follow the Homework link to find the weekly assigned words.

Math Facts/Pages

In 1st grade we will begin working on the memorization of facts. We will begin with reviewing addition & subtraction facts. Fact tests will be given each week. Please have a set of flash cards for both addition and subtraction.  Nightly pages that are assigned can be found in your child's agenda.

Agendas

Communication between school and home is extremely important. Parents please make checking your child’s agenda and signing them daily a top priority!

Each morning I will ask your child to look for notes from you and turn into me. If you have a short note for me the agenda is a great place for us to communicate. Please put long notes on a separate sheet of paper and place them in your child's go home folder.

Each afternoon, I will write homework assignments on the board for students to copy in their agenda and then sign your child's agenda. It is your child’s responsibility to record their own homework assignments and take home all necessary materials. Please help your child be responsible and be sure they complete all assignments, your help is needed in 1st grade for your child to be successful. Reading, spelling and math facts are daily homework and may not be written down.

Behavior Plan

The goal of our classroom discipline plan is to earn good"bee"havior sticks. Each time, a student completes an task (getting agenda signed) or demonstrates good citizenship they receive a bee-havior stick. Each time a student earns 5 sticks they get to visit the classroom treasure chest.

**If necessary, your child will be asked to fill out a behavior chart. This chart will be sent home and signed by the student, teacher and parent-returned, and then filed in the student folder. Your support will be appreciated in turning this behavior around!
